Infinite Scroll
2026 · Print and hand embroidery on paper, 13.4 × 33.3 in (17 × 37 in framed); each work paired with a digital token
Infinite Scroll is a series of three works in the format of a hanging scroll, each a print on paper that Xie has embroidered by hand, paired with a digital counterpart shown on a vertical screen. Initially from a commissioned project by MODEL-WIP exploring heritage and language, the series was shown in Code Chronicles V.2 at Bitforms Gallery.
The work begins with seal script, the ancient form of Chinese writing in which characters still sit between picture and sign. Xie's algorithm breaks the characters apart, distorting and shattering them and filling the fragments with embroidery textures, so that forms foundational to a language she cannot read become forms of her own. The fractured lines came to read as thread, a quilt of stories and languages. These algorithmically generated images were then used as training data for an artist-owned AI model.
Printed on paper and embroidered by Xie's hand, the thread traces the edges of the image: the hand of the artist following the output of the machine.
